10 Anime Movies You Must Watch

Anime movies are the best. I have seen so many that cutting this list down to ten movies is going to be difficult, but we are going to get threw it. As most of you know I really love the classics and throwbacks. I feel as though they just don’t make them like they used to. Some of the old animations hit you right in the emotions and really make you think about things. Everything from pollution and dictatorships to nature preservation and LAN parties. For you unfamiliar with LAN parties, these stand for Local Area Network party and were the norm before the introduction of the internet.

There are tons of movies that could have made this list but I really like the movies that are trying to prove a point or express an idea. Movies are simply for entertainment are also nice but they do not suit my particular taste. I also think cosplaying as these characters would be really awesome so hopefully, I can inception you with this post into cosplaying as these characters. So without further ado, let’s go ahead and dive into my top 10 favorite anime movies of all time.

Akira

You know I had to start the list with an absolute classic.  I am still waiting for this bike to be mass-produced. But I guess that means we may also advance science to the point where most of the things in this movie are also possible. Now that I think about it, its kind of a double-edged sword. But it’s worth the risk if it means I get to ride this bike. If you haven’t seen this Movie, it’s basically about a kid trying to save his friend that’s a victim of a government program which has given him some rather Bad Ass powers.  There’s so much more to this movie than that but definitely check it out.

Paprika

It has been a long time since I have seen this movie so forgive me if the details are kind of jumbled. But for some reason, I vividly remember the intro cut scene and have always loved the music that accompanies it. Dr. Atsuko Chiba is a dream detective by night and is working on a machine to help psychotic patients. Anything is possible in the dream realm and this is reflected in the crazy events that occur in this movie.

Grave Of The Fireflies

If this movie doesn’t move you or bring you to tears than you’re an absolute animal and you need to be psychotically evaluated. This is without a doubt one of the saddest stories I have ever seen and it, unfortunately, does not have a happy ending. I won’t spoil it for you but just be warned that if you watch this movie, odds are you going to shed at least one tear. The movie takes place during world war two and follows a brother and sister doing everything they can to survive. This movie really shows you that you shouldn’t take anything for granted.

Summer Wars

Let me start by saying I have not had the pleasure of photographing a King Kazma cosplay and this really makes me sad. This character was so badass and epitomizes everything a gamer should be. King Kazma is actually just the avatar of one of the main characters but is the undisputed fighting champion in the virtual world.  Side note I also want to see a Love Machine cosplay as this character looked phenomenal in the movie and will look even better cosplayed at a convention.

Alita Battle Angel

So not exactly an anime but still in the fictional category, Alita Battle Angel was an awesome movie. At first, I didn’t really want to see this movie but after hearing how great it was I decided to go ahead and give it a shot. Man, I just have to say this was one of the best decisions regarding movies I have ever made. Long story short a girl is built, she’s awesome, she kicks ass, end of story LOL. No, but seriously, there’s a lot more and the story definitely takes off, so give it a watch. Also, please cosplay as this character as I have seen some awesome cosplays on Instagram and would love to add your image to the Instagram search list.

Weathering With You

Ok so now we have jumped back to the present with our awesome anime movies list and you can definitely see massive leaps in the characters drawing and animation. But, don’t write off any of the old anime movies simply because the animation is old, they are still worthy of being watched. Anyways, Weathering With You is a Japanese romantic fantasy drama. So it’s very different than the other movies on our list. The story focuses on Hodaka Morishima and Hina Amano who has the power to change the weather. This movie has won tons of awards and will not disappoint so check it out.

Children of The Sea

The movie outlines the connection between humanity and nature making it absolutely amazing. I always have loved the movies that are not superficial and this movie does not disappoint. The main character is Ruka who has had a lot of problems with her mother and fellow classmates. With no friends and nothing to do, she hangs out at the aquarium most days and meets these two mysterious boys. I don’t want to give the story away to much but its really one of the best movies on this list so please watch it. Then feel free to cosplay as Ruka.

Your Name

Another amazing love story like Children of the Sea, this story focuses on a male and female student in Japan who begin swapping bodies. From this short explanation, you can already imagine how this story is going to be unfolding and getting weird. The two communicate with each other by leaving notes on paper or sometimes their skin. It’s a nice break from the usual action genres I watch and reminds me that I need to break out of my comfort zone more often.

Garden Of Words

Garden of words is another movie that is outside of my normal anime comfort zone. Though not as old as some of the other movies on this list, it was released in 2013 giving it a bit of seniority. Nonetheless, this movie is an absolute masterpiece and focuses on a 17 year old student and a 27-year-old woman. This sounds like every guy’s fantasy but its not that type of movie. The two encounter each other over and over and develop an interesting relationship. Another great film on the list.

Howls Moving Castle

You know I couldn’t make this list without including a studio Ghibli film. Arguably my favorite Studio Ghibli film howls moving castle was released in 2004. I really loved this movie and its story revolves around a girl falling in love with a wizard and there quest to serve to warring countries. And let’s not forget the main character is under a spell that she can’t speak about and can only be removed vie a few conditions. This movie is so amazing and I can’t encourage you enough to see this movie.  I recently saw a howls moving castle cosplay and still regret not getting a picture. Don’t worry though there are many conventions coming and I will definitely capture one in the future.
