Our favorite time of the year is approaching and you know what that means, time to outshine all of these wannabe cosplayers. Halloween is our holiday and we need to make sure we let everyone know. Time to finish up and break out those awesome cosplays that you have been working on all year. Feel free to bring out the cute and fluffy outfits because we all love them, but let’s not neglect our terrifying and horrendous cosplays too. With today’s post, I want to look at my top 10 Halloween horror cosplays.
Let me clarify real quick. Im not talking about the most terrifying costumes. I am looking at characters that starred or were seen in both horror video games and anime. For added pleasure, we will also check out some skins that are unique for the Halloween season. I know Halloween is still a little bit away but there’s no trouble with starting earlier to get a head start on the competition. And with that idea in mind, lets dive into some Halloween cosplays.
Hanzo
Starting us of we have a very awesome skin released by blizzard for the game overwatch. Hanzo has some absolutely devastating abilities and has always been a fan favorite in overwatch. The addition of his Halloween skin back in 2016 I believe certainly added to the characters already commanding presence. Ill admit, to pull this cosplay off you may have to be a bit artistic as his colorful tattoos are not amateur grade. But I’m sure with enough practice you can pull it off.
Reaper
Another fan favorite I have seen at cons its reaper. This badass costume is always one of my favorite. I remember seeing a reaper walk around with some kind of contraption that would release black smoke from his costume as he shouted DIE DIE DIE. One of the best things I have ever had the experience of viewing at a convention. Anyways this costume looks so cool. Reminds me of the headless horseman, without the horse lol. Anyways, rock this costume and your next Halloween party and I’m sure you will get lots of compliments and awesome stares.
Little Sister
I absolutely love this cosplay. Little sisters are such an iconic character to the video game industry and almost every time I see them cosplayed there of course accompanied by a big daddy. This character is from the game Bioshock and man does it bring back memories. She is extremely creepy and fits so well into the Halloween theme. The most disturbing thing about this character is not her creepy personality, its that she runs around with a giant needle. We all know you don’t run with sharp objects. That’s childhood 101.
Isaac Clarke
This character may have slipped into the history books but I remember just how terrifying this game was as though I played it yesterday. This game was released in 2008 and had tons of veteran gamers absolutely terrified. The visuals and gameplay for this game were phenomenal and always left the player on edge, never knowing what was behind each corner. Possibly the coolest part of this cosplay is the helmet. I absolutely love the 3 glowing blue lights in it and really need to find someone cosplaying this character to do a shoot with on Halloween.
Enchantress
Whether you hated or loved suicide squad, you have to admit the enchantress outfit was rather badass. The symbols scattered throughout her body along with her grimy presence just worked. Everything about this character was captivating and the idea of cosplayers recreating this costume is riveting. Depending on where you live you may want to make sure you do not have to be outside for to long, as the actual amount of clothing she is wearing is rather, well, lacking.
Elvira Mistress Of The Dark
I think many of you are too young to remember Elvira. Honestly, I vaguely remember the film from childhood but definitely recognize the character every time I see. The story revolves around Elvira receiving a great deal of money from a deceased aunt but she has to head to Massachusetts to grab the money. Long story short they try to burn her for being a witch but spoiler alert it doesn’t happen. Definitely check out this film during Halloween and pay tribute to the classics.
Scarecrow
This is another timeless classic that needs to be cosplayed more in my opinion. Scarecrow is usually overshadowed by the joker in the batman series but is no less menacing. His appearance is much more frightening in my opinion and definitely needs to be cosplayed more. In his arkham asylum iteration he has fear injecting needles for hands which definitely added a unique flair to the costume. If your interested in creating the gloves you can find a tutorial HERE for your next convention.
Ruvik
This character’s attire is rather simple to recreate but it’s the burns and scars that are going to take a bit of work. He is the primary antagonist of the series the evil within and is absolutely terrifying to behold. All the makeup effects artists should love this character as their imaginations can run wild with the creations of various scars, bruises, and burns. I just witnessed this character first hand at BLERDCON but wasn’t quick enough on the draw to take pics.
The Keeper
Another villain of the evil within series, the Keeper like Ruvik, is a sight to behold. The character has a large metal safe for a head and a butchers outfit for clothing. To complement the butcher’s appearance, he uses a meat tenderizer as a weapon. He primarily is a powerhouse and simply charges his opponents. But the real fear is in his teleportation ability to any safe in the game. This means that you are constantly at risk of attack meaning you have to be on guard at all times.
Whispess
If the keeper didn’t freak you out then the Whispess from the Witcher has to at least get a few hairs standing. Whispess is one of the three ghastly sisters and is apparently the eldest. This character literally carries body parts from his victims on her attire as though they were jewlery. To be honest, I don’t even know where to begin on telling you how to recreate this cosplay but I’m sure with enough determination, you will figure it out.
Jill Valentine
You know I had to end it with an absolute giant in the horror industry. Jill valentine is one of the original 11 members of the STARS team and has seen some of the craziest ish the video game world has to offer. She is a staple of the resident evil series and is extremely iconic. Another crazy fact, she was the first playable female character in the survival horror genre. She made her first appearance in 1996 and has since received several graphical upgrades to assure she stays current with todays consoles. If your looking for an iconic female badass character, look no further than Jill Valentine.
