Best cosplay items for cosplayers

Cosplay isn’t all about the outfit. Well, it is in a way but you get my point, right? Wearing nothing but a black shirt and cosplaying Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul will get you noticed but why not spruce it up. What are the two things that come to mind when it comes to Ken? That iconic mask and the ghoul’s hair, no?

These accessories or ‘cosplay items’ in this case are the heart and soul of a lot of characters out there. Everyone wants to pull off the best cosplay and bring their character to life. So, let’s have a look at some of the accessories that are a must when you’ve embarked on this quest of ‘dress to impress’ cause the journey’s going to be a hard one for sure.

10. Hats

With all the brands to choose from, it’s easy to empty your wallet in minutes. There are cosplay hats all over the place! It’s safe to say that hats define a huge part of fashion at this point. Let me ask you a question, Who is Straw Hat Luffy without the Straw Hat? Kujo Jotaro without that old school, chained up hat that for some reason never seems to fall off? The hats make a huge part of those characters. They are a must when it comes to pulling off that exact, picture-perfect look.

9. Rings

I know, the Akatsuki just popped up in everyone’s head right now. But if you’re an og then Katekyo Hitman Reborn is the good stuff, right? I don’t know what it is about wearing that ring, but putting one on that mimics the ones worn by characters in the series makes you feel that ‘bond’. It makes you feel like you’re one of the ‘gang’, making you act all rambunctious as if you’re a 13-year-old or something haha. Whether it’s that sick 200 IQ plan ‘Zamasu’ executed perfectly with those ‘time rings‘ or just perfection coming into the limelight with Death the Kid hopping on the hype train, the rings just can’t be missed out on.

8. Bandages or Hand Wraps

When it comes to anime, bandages haven’t been used to their fullest extent. But at the same time, it’s one of those accessories that goes hand in hand with that nostalgic feeling that serves as the perfect respite, making you think of those Gaara vs Rock Lee days. Long before him, there was Shishio, a character whose cosplay is one of the hardest to pull off if you aren’t ‘cheating’ in any way. Plus, if you want to pay a tribute to Kamina or want your death wishes to be heard loud and clear, bring Dazai to life. In these cases, the bandages are going to come in real handy.

7. Bandanas

Damn, wearing one makes a character a ‘badass’ right away. Or it’s just that only the coolest of characters are able to ‘withstand’ it or something IDK. But still, the bandana is a must when you’re pulling out the big guns like Zoro from One Piece. His bandana is badass and pays tribute to his old attire. But we all know in the real world he would have a great sense of direction due to his ‘Iphone’. Plus, it’s a great gift for people cosplaying characters such as Winry from Full Metal Alchemist.

6. Animal ears

I mean, it’s unlikely that you are going to have four ears pop out of your head and proceed to transform into some sort of ‘half-animal’ all of a sudden. Instead, this is the best alternative you have unless you have tons of money to get plastic surgery along with a very understanding job. A perfect character that comes to mind is Raphtalia from Rising of the Shield Hero. This would definitely be the best alternative if you plan to cosplay as her.

5. Eye Patches

The pirates in those old tales aren’t the only ones putting this sick accessory to its best use. Even royalty uses it now. Ciel Phantomhive from Black Butler is a prime example. Eye patches were stables in some of the old animes such as Bleach. Good old Kenpachi Zaraki just wanted to fight to his very limit without a care in the world as to what the outcome would be. But be warned as you may bump into a bunch of people at conventions with these on since there are just loads of people at them and your depth perception will be thrown off. But with a little bit of practice and we’re all good.

4. Spectacles

This one can be hard depending on what character you’re going for so, choose wisely! At times your good old Grandmas glasses that you ‘borrowed’ while she was asleep would suffice since that’s all Shimura Shinpachi from Gintama wears. But if you’re going all fancy and want someone like Saiki Kusou from The Disastrous Life of Saiki K or Kamina from Gurren Lagann then you gotta try way harder than that. But we’ve got your back since we’ll add the links to those items right below. No, no, no need to thank us, I know im the kindest.

3. Wigs

Some of these characters have hairstyles that are straight-up ‘humanly impossible’. Sure, you could pay 10 grand to go to the finest salon out there just to end up bald next week. Instead, just use a wig? Whether it’s Kaneki Ken from Tokyo Ghoul, or Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII, the wigs are a must to bring in that exact look.

2. Masks

Whether it’s you coming up with your own ANBU corps squad or wanting to bring good old Kaneki back, the masks make a huge part of a lot of memorable characters out there. And, it may just be the one item that gets you spotted in a crowd. A great example of this is Hei’s mask from darker than black or Kagetanes mask from black bullet. Both definitely helped make that character and unfortunately, despite your beautiful face being a great alternative, it just won’t get the job done.

1. Weapons

In the beginning, it was all about the battles, all about people going at each other just wanting to hog all the glory and be seen as the ‘last man standing’. This type of anime and mentality is sure to bring in all kinds of weapons crafted from the depths of mankind’s imagination. Since humans have only four limbs to work with, our idea and use of these tools have been rather linear. But occasionally, creators will draft instruments and conscript household items into weaponry service. Two great examples of this are Haruko Haruharas guitar from FLCL and Gon Freeces fishing pole.
