Well, Its finally here. We have waited a long time, 7 years to be exact. I loved the first two in the series and have high expectations for the third. What am I talking about? Glad you asked my friend. I’m obviously talking about one of the best series of all time and greatest shooters ever released. None other than the amazing borderlands series. This game was released 5 days ago and though I have yet to purchase it I have been watching streamers nonstop on twitch. One of my favorite is Jermaineplays . If you are an avid twitcher definitely check him out, he does some great work on his stream. Now, back to the matter at hand, Borderlands Cosplay!
I cant not stress enough how much I love these characters cell-shaded graphics. Cosplayers that can replicate this look are amazing. I can’t imagine the difficulty and skill requires to replicate the game’s graphics with makeup. I would love to do a tutorial on this someday but really need to find a makeup artist looking to collaborate. If you are reading this and are interested definitely send me a message. Anyways enough with the appetizers, let’s dive into some awesome Borderland Cosplay Ideas.
Mad Moxxi
First up we have Mad Moxxi. I have seen several images of this character on Instagram but have not been fortunate enough to come across one at a convention. If you are going to cosplay as a character from the series then please choose this one. I say that only because she is my favorite. This character thoroughly enjoys violence and combat. Despite her current role, she was previously a very experienced and capable fighter. My favorite aspect of this costume is the hat. It reminds me of Caitlyn’s hat from league of legends. Feel free to snag this costume for any upcoming conventions. And definitely check out a few YouTube tutorials for the makeup, I’m sure they will be helpful.
Psycho
Psychos are rather annoying enemies that come in a variety of flavors. You have zombie psychos, trapper psychos, and even P5YCHO psychos. Although they are not the most powerful enemies in the game they are definitely iconic. They’re an absolute staple to the series and as such was featured as the cover art on the series 3rd installment and made a playable character in the 2nd game. Make sure you snag the Mask along with the pants to complete the outfit as the mask really makes the cosplay iconic.
Mordecai Cosplay
Mordecai decided to grace us with his presence again in the 3rd installment of the game. He is of the hunter class and uses precise marksmanship along with his falcon for damage. This cosplay looks SO COOL! I absolutely love every aspect of it ranging from the color scheme to the wrapped hair extending from the back of the mask. I have had my eye on this cosplay as I think I already have the hair aspect down. Let’s not mention you also get to carry around a fake falcon with you. I’ll admit a real falcon would likely be much cooler but I’m sure the convention staff along with the police may have an issue with such authenticity. Party poopers.
Tiny Tina
Next up we have our adorable 13 years old unstable explosive expert. She has made a return like mordecai in the 3rd installment of the game. Although she’s unstable, its well deserved. Her parents were unfortunately killed by handsome jack and has since vowed revenge. If your parents had been subjected to slag mutation experiments, I’m sure you would be a little messed up in the head also. If you do decide to purchase this cosplay you really won’t need to purchase much else as the costume comes with most of the items including (Pauldrons, Top, Waist bag, Gloves, Pants, Toy, Headwear, Belt, and Underwear).
Maya
Maya is one of the six sirens in borderlands with some of the others being angel and Lilith. She has an array of psychic abilities so get those photoshop skills ready as you can make some amazing edits pertaining to this character’s abilities. Maya is actually a bit of a delinquent since she opposed the orders of the monks presiding over her. But it was definitely well deserved as they were exploiting her and using her presence to keep the general population obedient. Anyways her yellow outfit has been revamped in borderlands 3 and now she’s not as bright of a target lol. This character is another that I rarely see at conventions with Moxxis and Psychos outnumbering her.
Tyreen Calypso
This was one of my favorite images from momocon and you can obviously see why. This Tyreen Calypso cosplay was worn by when.ravens.fall and looks amazing. I’m not going to act like I have any idea on how she created this masterpiece but from the others, I have seen, they appear to use Faux Leather in the creation process. I assume you could use something like this jacket as a base, to begin with, and then modify it from there. They actually released a cosplay guide which can be found HERE for better references of her outfit. You can also reach out to some of the cosplayers for tips. I’m sure they would be extremely helpful.
Handsome Jack
Last but not least we have one of the worst villains to ever grace the gaming industry. Handsome Jack was an absolute terror and would do anything to achieve his goals. His role in borderlands 2 was absolutely crucial as he was the man protagonist, spoiler if you have not played the game. His cosplay looks amazing and the makeup effects are gorgeous for this character. I have yet to really dive into the world of cosplay makeup but have seen a few cosplayers use THIS makeup to achieve the desired effects. Practice makes perfect so don’t be afraid to get your hands a bit dirty and take that $7 plunge.
