Whats going on everyone? We have another awesome interview for you featuring @NaturallyColorfulBabe. She is a Chicago based cosplayer that focuses on cosplaying, makeup, pop culture, and healthy living. Not to mention, she’s also an avid blogger and Youtuber. So truly a woman of many talents. Check out her YouTube for some awesome information related to all of the topics above! Shes posted some amazing tutorials and discussed some awesome topics that I’m sure will be useful for your next cosplay.
Like many of us, she is budget-minded when making cosplays and first decides how to achieve her goals without spending a ton of money. She states amazon is a very underutilized tool by many when it comes to purchasing fabrics, tools, and accessories for cosplay. It’s a lot cheaper than going to the craft store. Cosplayers should also utilize Walmart and this means she doesn’t have to go to Joann’s and can start working with the items immediately. If you take away anything from this post its that you need to start utilizing a glue gun more lol. They are an absolute must.
With regards to convention experiences. She states she has a few large Pet Peeves. One is that she can’t stand when people tell others what they can or cannot cosplay as. She has a video on her YouTube dedicated to this topic so definitely check that out. The second is the disrespect of cosplayers. There are times when you should not bother cosplayers for example when they are eating or fixing their cosplay. Let them get adjusted first then once they have all of their ducks in order ask for a picture. But the biggest issue of them all would have to be others telling her that the character she chose to cosplay as is not black.
Obviously, cosplay is for everyone and these characters are not real. So anyone is free to cosplay as them and portray them in any skin they want. We also discuss some ways to improve the POC community. There are many things that of course could help improve the POC community but one of the largest is supporting each other. Reach out to your fellow POC cosplayer and support them. Also, give them compliments on their cosplay. Compliments and improving another’s self-esteem goes a long way and can be the final push someone needs to truly shine.
If you are trying to find some helpful groups that will promote your cosplay journey then one of the main things you should look at before joining a group is the questions they are asking before you join. If they are asking crazy questions or are not supporting others and their cosplays then maybe these are not the groups for you.
