Before we begin with today’s post I do have to apologize for my recent absence. Its been to long since my last post so please forgive me. But, in my defense I had finals for school and I was out of the country.
I visited Thailand, China and the Philippines and saw tons of interesting things. Make sure you check them out on my IG as I have yet to upload the pics to the site but don’t worry, they will eventually make their way to the site.
Now onto today’s post. I have taken several pictures over the years and have had several favorite shoots.
But the ones that stick out the most are the ones that return me to my early days of cosplay. That’s right, it’s time to pay homage to the old school. So today’s post is dedicated to, My Top 7 classic Cosplays.
Kenshin Himura
Coming in at number 7 we have Kenshin Himura or Rurouni Kenshin. This anime was released April 25, 1994 and ran until September 21, 1999. The story focuses on a rogue samurai that wanders Japan protecting its people from the government.
He vows to never take a life again. The theme revolves around the idea of atonement, Peace and romance. I know series like My Hero Academy and Goblin slayer are getting all the attention today, but definitely take some time to watch this classic anime.
Winifred Sanderson
Number 6 we have Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus. This isn’t exactly anime or manga but definitely fits into the classics category. This movie defines Halloween and set the tone for Halloween Spirit.
Originally airing in 1993, Hocus Pocus focuses on 3 sisters that have come back after a 300 year hiatus to restore their youth. Once again, if you have not seen this movie PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch this.
Grand Master Bushido Brown
Next up in the number 5 position we have the legendary Grand Master Bushido Brown from the boondocks. I really wanted to put this one higher on the list but only because of personal preferences.
I love everything boondocks so as soon as saw this cosplay I had to photograph it. This series focuses on Huey/Riley the grandfathers two children and is a social satire adult animation series. It focuses on black culture and ran from 2005 to 2014. Check it out ITS AWESOME!!!
Toph Beifong
For number 4 we have Toph Beifong from Avatar the Last Air bender. I always loved her character and this cosplay was spot on. I watched this series twice and have so many good memories of it.
Avatar the Last Airbender ran from 2005 to 2008 and focuses on Aang and his friends as they attempt to bring down Fire Lord Ozai. Toph is a blind Earth bender that develops metal building and teaches the Avatar earth building. This series is a classic and definitely will not disappoint.
White Ranger
Claiming the 3 spot in our top 7 countdown we have the original white ranger from power rangers. I grew up on this show and the only thing cooler than the green ranger was the white ranger.
Fun fact, both the white and green ranger were played by Tommy Oliver, who has since gone on to enter the martial arts hall of fame. I don’t think I need to give a back story on power rangers but I have to say Mighty Morphin was my favorite. Nothing will ever top the white rangers talking tiger sword and Tgierzord. Pay respect to the classics and check it out.
Professor Stein
Claiming the number 2 spot we have Professor Stein from Soul eater. This series originally ran from 2008 to 2009 and was simply bad ass. Everything from magic to bad ass scythe wielding teenagers can be seen in this series.
The plot focuses on three teams each consisting of a weapon meister and weapon the can transform into a humanoid form. Each weapon must become a Death Scythe before its full potential is unlocked and is useable by Death Incarnate. Stein is one of the many Bad Ass characters in the series and may just be the most powerful wielder ever. Check it out.
Spike and Faye
Claiming the number 1 position we have Spike and Faye from Cowboy Bebop. This series is truly a classic and set the bar for amazing anime. The story focuses on a group of bounty hunters known as cowboys which chase criminals throughout the galaxy.
The main story focuses on Spike and his deadly rival Vicous. These two were once partners and friends but when spike developed a relationship with Viciouses girlfriend everything changes. This series is an absolute must. If you do not watch any other anime on this list make sure its cowboy bebop.
Well that’s it for our top 7 countdown of my favorite classic Cosplays. Not everything on the list was a 100% classic but any anime older than 5 years that had a rather large following at the time is a classic in my book.
